From August 28–September 7, Soundbox Ventures will launch the Suncoast Composer Fellowship Program (SCFP). The SCFP hosts 2 internationally-acclaimed composers in residence, 6 composer fellows selected from an international applicant pool, and 9 classical musicians. The SCFP’s aim is to support the artistic development of emergent composers by bolstering their portfolio with high-quality performances and recordings of their music, improving their self-advocacy skills through writing and speaking workshops, and building a mentorship network through a community of composers, performers, and audience patrons. More information about our program can be found at www.soundboxventures.org/scfp
With our non-profit partners, Soundbox presents concerts and educational events to help local audiences, students, and artists discover purpose in their creativity. Our partners include Sarasota-based non-profits ensembleNewSRQ and Sarasota Music Conservatory; Plymouth Harbor and First Congregational United Church of Christ (FCUCC) as venue sponsors; and Tyler Kline and staff from WSMR who will work with the composer fellows on public speaking and interview opportunities on the air.
The residency culminates with the Composer Fellowship Concert on September 5th at FCUCC This concert is the soft-opening to ensembleNewSRQ’s 8th season, beginning with a pre-concert lecture-salon curated by Soundbox. While audiences enjoy wine and refreshments in the chapel room, composer fellows will speak about their artistic work related to their music to be performed. Audiences will move to the sanctuary to attend the formal concert, which will be recorded and broadcasted online. Audiences can meet and greet the artists and composer fellows outside following the concert.
