Welcome to our historic 10th Season of ensembleNEWSRQ!
Ten years in stride, with music as our guide—this decade of sound is truly cause for celebration. We’re thrilled to bring you a season packed with six incredible subscription programs, three commissions, four world premieres, defining collaborations, bold new endeavors, and enSRQ’s triumphant return to the Sarasota Opera House—not once, but twice—for two unforgettable capstone events.
Our historic 10th Season opens in October, where new American voices intertwine in a dazzling program of shimmering whispers, tangled counterpoint, and electrifying interplay. In December, four composers take flight in a lyrical journey of luminous textures, whirring wings, and resonant melodies—including the first of this season’s four premieres. January brings strings, percussion, and voice together in a lush winter journey of shimmer, ritual, and song, featuring Sarasota favorite Thea Lobo.
Past and present collide in February with Retrospektiv, a 10th Season celebration of enSRQ favorites and bold new discoveries. Works by Shaw, Buford, Zare, and Puts weave past triumphs with fresh sounds in a program alive with memory and momentum.
Our first Opera House presentation is truly momentous: MUSIC FOR 18 MUSICIANS. enSRQ joins the world in celebrating Steve Reich’s 90th birthday and the 50th anniversary of his hypnotic minimalist masterpiece—a historic landmark and a fitting tribute to our own milestone season.
Finally, we partner with Artist Series Concerts of Sarasota in May to present Matthew Aucoin’s Music for New Bodies, created with acclaimed director Peter Sellars. This bold operatic meditation on humanity’s shifting place in the natural world fuses Jorie Graham’s poetic texts with Aucoin’s visceral soundscapes. Sellars’ visionary staging amplifies the work’s urgency and transcendence, inviting us to imagine new forms of life, connection, and transformation in an era defined by our evolving relationship with nature and technology.
Dear audience, you’ve welcomed daring new works with open ears and hearts, and this year we honor that spirit with our boldest, most innovative season yet. Join us for this historic milestone—we can’t wait to celebrate with you!
Yours in contrapuntal celebration,
Samantha + George
