Great Groups Think Alike! enSRQ welcomes our friends from Boston, HUB New Music, for an exciting collaboration to open the 2018-19 season. This synergistic concert proves the whole is greater than the sum of its parts, pairing minimalist masters Michael Gordon and Steve Reich with adventurers in texture and darkness Anna Clyne and Nina C. Young.

Metal, Wind, & Wood

Metal of the vibraphone, wind of the oboe, and wood of the strings feud on this concert where Italian master, Franco Donatoni, shines in two important works (that are more similar than they first appear!). Our complete cycle of Luciano Berio’s Sequenzas continues with oboist, Nicholas Arbolino. The battle between wind and wood concludes with Melinda Wagner’s fiendishly beguiling work, Scritch.

enSRQ returns to Alfstad& Contemporary in the Rosemary District following our acclaimed collaboration ‘Glass’ from 2016. We are thrilled to welcome the composer/pianist Daniel Wohl and visual artist Daniel Schwarz here to SRQ for these performances. This evening length work for live visual projections and electroacoustic ensemble explores different worlds of improbable combinations of sounds, hidden sonic landscapes both acoustic and electronic.

enSRQ’s second commission receives its World Premiere on April 22, 2019, with a percussion concerto from renowned Portuguese composer, Andreia Pinto Correia, inspired by sketchbooks of Joan Miro (Soloist, George Nickson). Brad Williams reprises his iconic performance of music and acting in Berio’s Trombone Sequenza, while John Harbison’s 6th String Quartet literally breaks down physical boundaries between the stage and the audience, in a moving work celebrating acceptance.
